Final Five Names Announced
The final five choices for the new name of the Edmonton Baseball Team (formerly the Edmonton Prospects) have been released and are being voted on.
The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) club, which will play out of the newly-built Myshak Metro Ballpark in Spruce Grove in 2025, released the following selections, along with a brief explanation about each:
- Burrow Bandits ... inspired by the clever and elusive badger, the Burrow Bandits honor Metro Edmonton’s underground energy industry and the wildlife that thrives in the prairies. Perfect for a scrappy mascot stealing bases and hearts alike!
- Cactus Rats ... celebrating the quirky porcupine, the Cactus Rats name is sharp and memorable, like the spikes of this lovable critter. Add a fun desert twist to ballpark branding with cactus-themed giveaways and spiky mascot antics.
- Cobra Chickens ... playfully named after the infamous Canadian goose, Cobra Chickens highlights Metro Edmonton’s feisty, loud, and fearless spirit. Imagine a honking, wing-flapping mascot leading wild chants at the ballpark!
- Jacked Rabbits ... paying homage to the mighty jackrabbit, the Jacked Rabbits brand embodies energy, speed, and strength. A muscle-bound bunny mascot can hype up the crowd and showcase Metro Edmonton’s “Energy City” roots.
- Prairie Pirates ... inspired by the mischievous magpie, known for its knack for stealing shiny treasures, the Prairie Pirates bring a playful energy to the diamond. With a sneaky mascot and treasure chest of giveaways, this team is ready to plunder bases and hearts!
