FortisAlberta is once again teaming up with the Western Canadian Baseball League.

The Alberta utility has built upon its 2025 partnership with the WCBL to present Opening Day, Opening Week and the league’s weekly Power Rankings to passionate baseball fans.

WCBL President Kevin Kvame is excited about the new agreement, which sees the league continue to work with a company that delivers safe and reliable electricity to more than half a million customers in central and southern Alberta.

Opening Day for the Western Canadian Baseball League takes place on Thursday, May 28th when the defending WCBL Champion Regina Red Sox travel to Medicine Hat to face the Mavericks at Athletic Park.

Ten teams are in action on May 28th. The Sylvan Lake Gulls host their rival, the Okotoks Dawgs, at Gulls Field while the Lethbridge Bulls welcome the Brooks Bombers for another all-Alberta matchup at Spitz Stadium. East Division season openers include the Moose Jaw Miller Express visiting Mitchell Field for a date with the Swift Current 57's and the Saskatoon Berries taking on the Weyburn Beavers at Tom Laing Park.

All 12 WCBL teams will be in action during Opening Weekend on Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th.

In addition to partnering with the WCBL for Opening Week of the 2026 season, FortisAlberta is also putting a jolt into the Power Rankings, which will provide a weekly rundown of the teams that are rocketing up the standings and those squads that are hoping to put together winning streaks.

ABOUT THE WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE (WCBL)

The WCBL is Canada’s premier summer collegiate baseball league. The WCBL boasts a long-standing tradition of creating a showcase for top Canadian prospects, while at the same time offering American college players the opportunity to hone their skills in front of enthusiastic baseball fans in towns and cities throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. WCBL rosters include elite college players from across North America and league alumni have gone on to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) and in other professional baseball leagues.

All-Star Weekend takes place in Saskatoon this year, where the Berries will play host to the top players from around the WCBL on Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th.

The Regina Red Sox are the defending WCBL champions, coming off a thrilling three-game series victory over the Sylvan Lake Gulls in 2025.
