Opening Week Power Rankings

With Opening Weekend in the Western Canadian Baseball League now complete, a fresh edition of the Power Rankings are now here.

The Okotoks Dawgs have surged into top spot after going undefeated in their first three games. The Dawgs trio of wins included two triumphs over their rivals from Sylvan Lake and a dominant 26-1 thumping of the Lethbridge Bulls.

The defending WCBL champion Regina Red Sox slid down one spot into second place in the Power Rankings - presented by FortisAlberta - with a 3-1 record. The Red Sox topped the Medicine Hat Mavericks in three close matchups, but dropped a 10-9 game to the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Up one position to third are the Saskatoon Berries, who registered three wins in four games against the Weyburn Beavers. One of those victories was an 18-0 romp over the Beavers at the Rural Roots Baseball Classic in Carnduff, Saskatchewan.

The Lethbridge Bulls also climbed one spot from the pre-season Power Rankings. They sit in fourth place with a 2-1 record. Despite suffering a lopsided loss to the Dawgs, the Bulls defeated the Swift Current 57's by a 21-6 score after beating the Brooks Bombers 8-3 on Opening Day.

In fifth place are the 2-1 Moose Jaw Miller Express, who split a pair of games against the 57's and handed the defending league champs their only loss of the campaign to date.

Up three spots are the Fort McMurray Giants, who won a game and lost another against the Energy City Cactus Rats.

The Mavericks sit in seventh place following a 1-3 start, while the Gulls dropped six spots to eighth in the Power Rankings after getting off to a 1-2 start.

The 1-2 Swift Current 57's are in ninth, and the Weyburn Beavers are in 10th, while the 1-1 Cactus Rats come in at 11th place.

The Brooks Bombers, who are still seeking their first win of the season, are in 12th spot after suffering three losses to the Bulls, Mavericks and Gulls.
