Hemmerling Alberta Player of the Week

A dominant outing on the mound has earned Reece Hemmerling Alberta Player of the Week honours.

The acknowledgment of the starting pitcher with the Sylvan Lake Gulls, courtesy of Village Brewery, comes after Hemmerling threw 121 pitches over eight innings against the Medicine Hat Mavericks on June 27th at Athletic Park.

The 23-year-old righthander from Edmonton registered eight strikeouts while allowing two walks, three hits and no runs in the 5-4 win for Sylvan Lake in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL).

"He goes up against a really good offensive team in the Medicine Hat Mavericks and shuts them down entirely," noted Joe McFarland on The WCBL Report

Hemmerling's scholastic stops include time at St. Francis Xavier High School in Edmonton; Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas; and the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Over the course of the 2026 WCBL season, Hemmerling has 17 strikeouts in 19 innings and three starts. He has walked just four batters.

Other players considered for the Village Brewery Alberta Player of the Week for the period of Monday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 28th were Frankie Giacolone of the Mavericks and Asahi Nakano of the Brooks Bombers.

Aidan Dougherty of the Okotoks Dawgs also earned kudos for hitting a natural cycle - collecting a single, double, triple and home run in that order - against the Fort McMurray Giants on June 26th.
