WCBL Partners with FortisAlberta for Opening Week
FortisAlberta is stepping inside the lines with the Western Canadian Baseball League.
The electricity distribution company has entered into a partnership with the WCBL to present Opening Day, Opening Week and the league’s All-Star Game & Home Run Derby to passionate sports fans.
"We're excited to present this year's opening games, as well as the WCBL All-Star Game in Okotoks, right across from our Okotoks office. It's a chance to celebrate the talent of the players and the community spirit we value at FortisAlberta,” said Lee Morrow, Director of Southern Operations with FortisAlberta.

WCBL President Kevin Kvame is enthusiastic about the partnership, which sees the league join forces with a company that delivers safe and reliable electricity to more than 600,000 farm, business and residential customers throughout Alberta.

Opening Day for the Western Canadian Baseball League takes place on Wednesday, May 28th when the defending WCBL Champion Okotoks Dawgs travel to Medicine Hat to face the Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. at Athletic Park.
Eight teams are in action on Thursday, May 29th. The Regina Red Sox host the Swift Current 57’s; the Sylvan Lake Gulls welcome the Energy City Cactus Rats; the Moose Jaw Miller Express visit the Mavericks in Medicine Hat; and the Weyburn Beavers roll out the red carpet for the Saskatoon Berries.
Opening Weekend continues with five games across Alberta and Saskatchewan on Friday, May 30th, followed by every team in action on Saturday, May 31st. WCBL Opening Weekend wraps up on Sunday, June 1st with five afternoon games, including the Lethbridge Bulls versus the Okotoks Dawgs at Seaman Stadium; the Energy City Cactus Rats visiting the Brooks Bombers at Elks Field; the Moose Jaw Miller Express paying a visit to Tom Laing Park in Weyburn; the Swift Current 57’s squaring off against the Medicine Hat Mavs at Athletic Park; and the Fort McMurray Giants hosting the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
The 2025 WCBL All-Star Game & Home Run Derby festivities – which showcase the league’s top players in an East Division versus West Division battle – will take place at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks on Saturday, July 19th.

The WCBL is Canada’s premier summer collegiate baseball league. The WCBL boasts a long-standing tradition of creating a showcase for top Canadian prospects, while at the same time offering American college players the opportunity to hone their skills in front of enthusiastic baseball fans in towns and cities throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
In 2025, the wood-bat league will welcome the Energy City Cactus Rats - a team based in Spruce Grove, Alberta that previously operated as the Edmonton Prospects - into the fold. The Okotoks Dawgs are the defending WCBL champions, coming off three consecutive titles between 2022 and 2024.
The WCBL experienced record-breaking attendance in 2024, with over 400,000 fans showing up at regular season and playoff games, as well as the league’s All-Star Game festivities at Seaman Stadium.
WCBL rosters include elite college players from across North America and league alumni have gone on to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) and in other professional baseball leagues.
