Dugout Stories Teams Up with WCBL
The Western Canadian Baseball League is proud to continue its longstanding working relationship with Alberta Dugout Stories and Saskatchewan Dugout Stories.
Under the Dugout Stories umbrella, both the Alberta Dugout Stories (ADS) and Saskatchewan Dugout Stories (SDS) websites have provided extensive coverage of the WCBL through league news stories, long-form feature articles, player profiles, team previews, photo galleries, podcast interviews and social media posts.
“Dugout Stories does an amazing job of covering baseball in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Through their efforts, founders Joe McFarland and Ian Wilson have provided consistent and added exposure to the Western Canadian Baseball League and they’ve really helped to grow the game of baseball in Western Canada,” said WCBL Director of Corporate Sponsorships Noah Rolheiser.
“McFarland does excellent work as a broadcaster at league events, in addition to his award-winning writing and podcasting efforts for Dugout Stories, and Wilson is an outstanding writer and communications specialist who has taken on the role of media coordinator for the WCBL.”
Wilson noted the WCBL is a great fit for Alberta Dugout Stories and Saskatchewan Dugout Stories.
“The Western Canadian Baseball League is home to the highest level of baseball in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It provides fantastic stadiums and ballparks for both fans and players to take advantage of on a beautiful summer night. We’re thrilled to share the stories of the baseball personalities who call the WCBL home, whether that’s for just one season or several years,” said Wilson, who has a background in print journalism.
Added McFarland: “Our passion is in telling stories that go beyond the scoreboard. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from the Western Canadian Baseball League's teams, coaches, players and fanbases in trusting us to help share their journeys in the game, and look forward to what we believe will be another outstanding summer with so many marquee events like the Rural Roots Baseball Classic in Carnduff, the WCBL All-Star Weekend in Saskatoon, the brand new Road to Okotoks championship and, of course, the quest for the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy in August. Can’t wait to see everyone around the ballpark!"
ABOUT ALBERTA DUGOUT STORIES & SASKATCHEWAN DUGOUT STORIES
Founded in 2017, Alberta Dugout Stories (ADS) was created by Joe McFarland and Ian Wilson to tell stories about baseball in the Canadian province of Alberta. ADS publishes articles on its website, regularly shares content on several social media platforms and interviews baseball people on its podcast. This journalistic endeavour was expanded in 2024 to include Saskatchewan Dugout Stories (SDS), a website and social media accounts dedicated to baseball storytelling in the province of Saskatchewan.
McFarland, the host of ADS: The Podcast, was named the winner of Baseball Canada’s Bob Elliott Media Recognition Award in 2025 for his exceptional contributions to Canadian baseball storytelling. McFarland and Wilson ranked 95th on the Canadian Baseball Network’s most recent annual list of the country’s most influential people in baseball.

The Regina Red Sox are the defending WCBL champions, coming off a thrilling three-game series victory over the Sylvan Lake Gulls in 2025.
