Introducing Player of the Week Honours

The Western Canadian Baseball League has partnered with Village Brewery and SaskTel to present Player of the Week honours throughout the 2026 season.

“We are delighted to have SaskTel and Village Brewery on board with celebrating the top pitchers and hitters in our league,” said WCBL Director of Corporate Sponsorships Noah Rolheiser.

“Our players represent some of the highest-end baseball talent in North America and any opportunity we can get to put a spotlight on them is very much appreciated.”

Each Monday during the WCBL regular season the Alberta Player of the Week from Village Brewery will recognize an exceptional athlete from a West Division team, while the Saskatchewan Player of the Week from SaskTel will honour a top player from an East Division squad.

Some of the best pitchers and batters in the WCBL will be honoured through this initiative.

The Player of the Week awards will commence on Monday, June 8th and continue to be announced each Monday for the remainder of the regular season.

ABOUT THE WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE (WCBL)

The WCBL is Canada’s premier summer collegiate baseball league. The 12-team WCBL boasts a long-standing tradition of creating a showcase for top Canadian prospects, while at the same time offering American college players the opportunity to hone their skills in front of enthusiastic baseball fans in towns and cities throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The wood-bat league consists of two divisions, an all-Alberta West Division and an East Division comprised of five Saskatchewan squads and a franchise from Alberta.

WCBL rosters include elite college players from across North America and league alumni have gone on to play in Major League Baseball (MLB), at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and in other professional baseball leagues.

All-Star Weekend takes place in Saskatoon this year, where the Berries will play host to the top players from around the WCBL on Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th.

The Regina Red Sox are the defending WCBL champions, coming off a thrilling three-game series victory over the Sylvan Lake Gulls in 2025.
