Walls Earns SK Player of Week
He's been among the pitching leaders in the Western Canadian Baseball League all season long.
So, it's no surprise to see Moose Jaw Miller Express starting pitcher Westin Walls recognized as the SaskTel Saskatchewan Player of the Week for his virtuoso performance against the Sylvan Lake Gulls on Friday, June 26th. That night at Ross Wells Park, Walls twirled eight innings of one-run baseball, yielding just five hits and one walk while striking out nine batters in the Millers 5-4 victory. Of his 102 pitches in the game, 74 went for strikes.
"This guy has been basically in the conversation every single week because of the dominance that he's been able to put out there," said Clark Munroe, host of The WCBL Report.
Walls has now made six starts for Moose Jaw and put in 40-plus innings of work. In that time, he has 42 Ks and a 3.76 earned run average (ERA).
The 6-foot-5 pitcher from Terrell, Texas has played for Cisco Junior College, the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, and Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.
A workhorse for Moose Jaw, Walls is in his third season with the Miller Express.
Other players considered for the SaskTel Saskatchewan Player of the Week for the period of Monday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 28th include outfielder Ethan Murdoch and utility player Gael Salinas, both of whom represent the Saskatoon Berries.
