Murdoch Saskatchewan Player of Week

He's been consistently good all year for the Saskatoon Berries.

Outfielder Ethan Murdoch has been a runner up for the SaskTel Saskatchewan Player of the Week on several occasions but he has finally broken through to capture the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) award thanks to some strong hitting lately.

From Monday, July 6th through Sunday, July 12th, the Swift Current product picked up 10 runs, 13 hits, nine RBI and three home runs in seven games.

Over the course of the season, the Marshall University student has been a fixture on the WCBL statistical leaderboards. Murdoch is batting .414 with a .500 on-base percentage, 1.197 OPS, 60 hits, 11 doubles, 10 long balls and 42 RBI.

He also received some exciting news off the field.

The Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL) named Murdoch the team's strength and conditioning coach/performance analyst.

“I’m very excited to get to work for my hometown team,” said Murdoch.

“The Broncos mean so much to the community and I’m looking forward to contributing to that. Getting to know and work with these elite hockey players and coaches is an opportunity that I’m grateful for.”

Also earning consideration for SaskTel Saskatchewan Player of the Week honours were Eduardo Saenz, a corner infielder with the Moose Jaw Miller Express, and Weyburn Beavers starting pitcher Zach Raichel, who recorded 18 strikeouts over 16 innings and two starts while surrendering just one earned run.
